What is neem?

the most used in ayurvedic medicine. The tree consist of the bark, leaves and seeds. Some neem products includes;

In this article we shall focus on the benefit of neem oil for natural hair, its method of extraction and how to apply it.

How is neem oil extracted?

Neem oil is extracted in various ways from different parts of the tree such as; the seed, leaves and fruits. The cold press method is known to yield neem oil with the highest quality. The steps involved in the cold press method of extraction starts with; collection of ripe seeds from the tree followed by

  • Drying
  • Roasting
  • Crushing and
  • Pressing

As stated earlier in this article neem oil can be extracted in various ways aside from the cold press method, The oil can be infused with a carrier oil like olive oil. This is done by soaking neem powder (finely grinded dry neem leaves) in a jar or bottle with any carrier oil and leaving it to sit for a week. After a week the oil would be visible. The mixture is then separated and transferred into a packaging bottle for use. By subjecting the soaked neem powder and oil to a temperature of about 40°C to 50°C neem oil can easily be infused in less than 30 minutes. This method is considered one of the fastest way to extract the oil.

Neem oil is comprised of 2 major compounds which are;

  • Azadirachtin
  • Triterpenoid

These compounds gives neem oil its antiseptic, antifungal and antipyretic properties. The medicinal oil is popularly used in the cosmetic industry for the production of body and hair care products because of its amazing benefits.

Benefits of neem oil for natural hair

There are many neem oil benefits for natural hair and most times people struggle with what to use it for. The medicinal properties of neem oil has proven it potent for treating common hair problems. Below are some of its benefits for the hair

1. Treat dandruff

Neem oil with its antiseptic properties can help get rid of the common hair problem dandruff. This hair problem could be caused as a result of dry scalp. The oil with its medicinal properties can treat dandruff when used frequently.

2. Increase the rate of hair growth

Neem oil has the ability to maintain the PH of the scalp and this assist hair growth. With a clean and healthy scalp the rate of hair growth increases.

3. Improves hair texture

With regular application of neem oil the scalp becomes healthy causing the growth of hair with good texture. A good hair texture reduces hair breakage.
